Strong and Stable Families

Evidence has shown that having recently adopted children puts unique strains on families, and through the Strong and Stable Families workshops, couples learn skills to help sustain the family through the transition. The Strong and Stable Families workshops are offered on an ongoing basis, so couples can continue to reinforce healthy marriage relationships. Kansas Children’s Service League offers these workshops in Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan and Kansas City. Sixteen workshops have been offered yearly with over 200 families being served annually.

Strong and Stable Families Workshop Curriculums and Outcomes
The Strong and Stable Families workshops utilize two nationally recognized evidence – based curriculums. The “PREP” curriculum is designed to help partners say what they need to say, get to the heart of problems, and increase their connection with each other. “The Loving Couples, Loving Children” curriculum offers families successful strategies on how to enrich and develop a higher commitment to their marriage and a healthy relationship. Families attending workshops have achieved the following outcomes:
  • Learned the characteristics of healthy adult relationships.
  • Gained new strategies on how to have “fun” together and plan on a long lasting future together.
  • Developed the skills for effective conflict resolution.
  • Networked with other adoptive families who will be a long term friendship and support system.
