KCSL would like to spotlight Brittany Martin, a new member of our Board of Directors and KCSL parent volunteer. Volunteers are the backbone of Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL). Their active participation helps us deliver our vital messages and programs to strengthen the community. Learn more about Brittany below.
Volunteer Spotlight Questionnaire:
Tell us a bit about yourself as a person and professional.
I am originally from Garden City, Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University. I have dedicated the last 7 years of my career to assisting others and navigating social systems. I am a go-getter, hardworking and genuine person. I love Jesus, my daughters and helping others. I am very family-oriented, and I think it is important to help others advocate for their families and children as well.
How did you become connected to KCSL?
I was aware of KCSL as a community resource through my work in social services. As a parent, I participated in KCSL’s home-based services while on the waiting list for center-based services. My daughter enjoyed her visits with her home visitor, and it was fun seeing how excited she got completing her activities.
What motivated you to serve on KCSL’s Community Leadership and Development Council?
The people that work for KCSL were a big part of my decision to join the Development Council. I know that the workers have a passion for helping families and children, which aligns with my passion as well. I think it is important to have people from different backgrounds and within different circles to provide insight and feedback to better any organization.
Why is volunteering for KCSL important to you?
It is important for people to see someone else that looks like them giving back for free. I volunteer without expectations of receiving anything in return. I’m passionate about showing my daughters the importance of volunteering at a young age and involving them in the process.
What would you like to tell others about your experience with KCSL in southwest Kansas?
Having people that work for KCSL listening to the community and families is important. I truly feel that they hear and listen to those participating in the program. KCSL gives back to the community as well, and you can see them at most all the events in town. I appreciate the kindness, connections and educational advocacy that has come from being a part of KCSL.
