Spring is approaching, and with it comes the urge to clean and refresh our homes. But between work, school and other family activities, finding time to deep clean seems nearly impossible. However, with these helpful tips, you and your family can tackle spring cleaning and have some fun along the way!

Make a Game Plan

Take a look at what needs to be cleaned in your home and write it down. Break down larger projects into manageable tasks. For example, instead of listing “clean the bathroom,” separate it into smaller steps such as scrubbing the shower walls. This makes the process less overwhelming and allows you to spread tasks over multiple days. Now, each area is cleaned thoroughly rather than rushed.

Get the Family Involved

Turn your chores into a family activity. This gives children the opportunity to learn new skills, work as a team and spend time together. Spring cleaning can teach kids how to maintain a healthy environment. When children learn to clean successfully, they are more likely to take initiative in the future.

Assign age-appropriate tasks. A 2-year-old can put toys away or stack books on a shelf they can reach. A 4-year-old can help dust or wipe down counters. Kids ages 6 to 10 can make their beds, vacuum or take out the trash, while older children may be able to handle more difficult tasks like cleaning out the fridge. Provide positive feedback when they complete a task focusing on what they did well.

Have Fun with It

Making a game out of cleaning makes chores exciting. See who can complete their task the fastest, compare who has the dirtiest wipe after cleaning counters or create a scavenger hunt for items around the house. Playing music everyone likes also makes cleaning more fun. Take time for dance breaks as needed!

Reward the Family

Celebrate your cleaning victories! Treat the family to ice cream, a movie or a relaxing night at home with a pizza party or board games. Rewards reinforce positive behavior and help make cleaning more enjoyable.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a daunting chore. It can be a fulfilling and fun experience for the whole family. Set realistic goals, divide tasks, grab your cleaning supplies and get started!
