Steps to Become a KCSL Foster Family
yellow
  1. Contact KCSL and request an information packet. The materials will explain the process and answer some basic questions.
  2. A KCSL representative will contact you to answer any questions and assist you with next steps if you decide to move forward.
  3. The next step will be to fill out a foster parent application and enroll in a TIPS-MAPP (Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety and Permanence - Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting) class, which will help you make informed decisions about foster care.
  4. Begin Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) family licensing application. Your KCSL resource family social worker will help you through this process.
  5. Following successful completion of the family assessment and DCF application, you are a licensed foster family! Either your resource family social worker or KCSL’s placement coordinator will contact you when a child who fits with your family is available.
