Oasis

Oasis is a free and voluntary program to families with youth ages 10 to 17 who are at-risk for running away or who have already run away from home. The program is offered in Jackson, Jefferson, Shawnee and Wabunsee Counties. Youth at-risk include youth experiencing family conflict, truancy or other problems at school, anti-social behavior and drug and alcohol use by the youth or parents. The goals of Oasis are to:
  • Prevent youth homelessness and out-of-home placement.
  • Improve family and youth functioning.
  • Safely reunite youth with their families by providing crisis intervention case management services aimed at preventing youth from running in the future.
The Oasis Runaway Program provides several core services that are designed to meet the needs of each family and youth.

Crisis Intervention Services
Oasis’ trained staff is available to help families diffuse family conflict. These services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Temporary Shelter Services
If the situation requires, Oasis can provide voluntary care with parental approval for up to 30 days in a licensed foster home.

Individualized Youth and Family Service Plans
Oasis services are tailored to meet the needs of each individual youth and their family. A Service Plan is developed and followed to guide the course of case management.

Monthly Peer/Youth Support Groups
Support groups help youths develop their ability to manage their own issues through interaction with peers who have similar problems and concerns.

Community Service/Youth Development
Oasis staff members provide outreach services to community agencies, law enforcement, schools, youth and their parents to build awareness of the risks of running and help community partners identify youths who may benefit from referral for services
